Fixit Station Posted on August 6, 2014August 25, 2017 by Vincent Huynh We are excited to announce that we are partnering with Dot Bike to raise money for a bike repair “Fixit” station at VietAID The Bicycle Repair Station includes all the tools necessary to perform basic repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools and air pump are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and tamper-proof fasteners. Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments. You can donate directly to VietAID by pressing the “Donate” button, or you can use the new fundraising page through IndieGogo. What We Need & What You Get The $2,000 you help us raise this summer will enable us to purchase and install the Dero Fixit with Air Kit 3 Pump, plus a Pump Stop unit to hold your bike upright while you use the pump. Contributors of $50+ will receive an invitation to the ribbon-cutting event and a DotBike T-shirt. Contributors of $25+ will receive an invitation to the ribbon-cutting event . You will be able to utilize this community resource and let others know that you helped make it happen. The Impact Dorchester has very few publicly accessible bike repair stations. We want more people to bike in Dorchester. Having free access to tools to fix a flat tire or adjust your brakes will help remove some barriers to biking. Once the Fixit is installed, we plan to work with local groups and businesses to lead bike repair tutorials on-site so that people know how to use the Fixit. If we exceed our target amount for this initiative, we will put funds toward another Fixit. Dorchester is a big place and it would be great to have several Fixits throughout our part of the city. Risks & Challenges Once the bike Fixit station is purchased and installed, we need to take care of it so it serves its purpose for years to come. The Fixit station will be located outside a VietAID property in the Fields Corner neighborhood and the organization will keep an eye on the station. We are going to need to work together to ensure that the Fixit station is maintained. We have members who have volunteered to keep the Fixit station in good working order.
